12th New Year's Concert at Concert Hall in the Warsaw Philharmonic 1 January 2017
The New Year has begun in a truly musical style! All credit goes to phenomenal New Year’s Concert, which took place in the venerable walls of Warsaw Philharmonic. This was already the 12th edition of New Year’s Concert, that was organized by the Jan Kiepura Mazovian Musical Theatre in Warsaw. The event was hosted by Olga Bończyk, Ryszard Rembiszewski and Marcin Cejrowski. The concert began with the famous Strauss’s Waltz – “The Blue Danube” under the baton of maestro Piotr Sułkowski, who held the function of music director of the concert at the same time. Iwona Wujastyk – Director of Jan Kiepura Mazovian Musical Theatre in Warsaw and Wiesław Raboszuk – Marshal’s Deputy of Mazovian Voivodeship welcomed the gathered audience. Then, first of the soloists – Marcin Bronikowski, went on stage and sang the aria from “The Marriage of Figaro” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. In this part of the concert the audience could also enjoy the aria from “The Barber of Seville” by Gioacchino Rossini performed by Szymon Kobyliński, a duet of Zerlina and Don Giovanni from the opera “Don Giovanni” by Mozart beautifully performed by Edyta Piasecka and Marcin Bronikowski and delightful Lauretta’s aria from the opera “Gianni Schicchi” by Giacomo Puccini sang by Marcelina Beucher. Afterwards, on the stage appeared Krystian Krzeszowiak, Wojciech Sokolnicki, once again – Edyta Piasecka, violinists Anna Wandtke and Bogdan Kierejsza, Marcin Bronikowski and at the end – a marvellous duet – Marcelina Beucher and Krystian Krzeszowiak, who performed together O soave fanciulla from the opera “La Boheme.” The second part of the concert was introduced by the concert’s special guest – maestro Jerzy Maksymiuk – who was awarded this evening with the Pro Masovia medal, for the lifetime artistic achievements, that contributed to the cultural development of Mazovian region. The Orchestra, along with the pianist Daniel Wnukowski, performed “Rhapsody in Blue” of George Gershwin. A while later, under the baton of Piotr Sułkowski, the soloists presented another memorable opera and operetta hits. During the second part of the concert, the audience could enjoy the beautiful melodies of Astor Piazzolla, Richard Rodgers, Franz Lehar, Vittorio Monti and Imre Kalman. There were, among others, such pieces of arts as Oblivion, Lips are silent, Co się dzieje, oszaleję. The last works, which ended this magical evening, was Radetzky March of Johann Strauss (father) and aria Libiamo from “La Traviata” by Giuseppe Verdi, performed by all the soloists, who took part in the concert. The audience seemed to be enchanted by the beautiful melodies, that rang that evening at the Warsaw Philharmonic. The audience’s vivid reactions reassured us that the New Year’s Concert at the Warsaw Philharmonic is an indispensable element in the Jan Kiepura Mazovian Musical Theatre’s repertoire.
