The 10th Gala of Musical Theatre Awards

On 20 June, the Warsaw Philharmonic Concert Hall was the scene of the 10th Gala of Musical Theatre Awards  presentation.

The Musical Theatre Awards Gala is a prestigious musical festivity at the highest artistic level. For 10 years, laureates have been selected each year by a jury composed of outstanding experts in classical and opera music,  musicals and theatre plays.

The directors of the best Polish Musical Theatres nominate candidates: outstanding authors and artists who merit the  prestigious Jan Kiepura prize.

The laureates in 16 categories are selected by the Jury composed of: Professor Izabela Kłosińska, Professor Zofia Rudnicka, Tatiana Kwiatkowska, Ph.d. Alicja Węgorzewska – Jury Chair, Profesor Ryszard Karczykowski, Rafał Olbiński and Jacek Boniecki.

Best performance:

„Cyrano” at Musical Theatre [Teatr Muzyczny] in Lodz, directed by: Jakub Szydłowski, libretto: Jacek Bończyk, music: Krzysztof Herdzin

Nominated by: Musical Theatre in Lodz

For creating an outstanding work, which contributes to the trend of confronting tradition and modernity.

 

Best female singer – Joanna Moskowicz

Nominated by: Jan Kiepura Mazovian Musical Theatre [Mazowiecki Teatr Muzyczny imienia Jana Kiepury] in Warsaw

For a breath-taking rendition of Kunegunda’ Aria during the New Year Concert.

Best male singer – Paweł Skałuba

Nominated by: State Baltic Opera [Opera Bałtycka] in Gdansk

For outstanding vocal talents, excellently rendering the emotions accompanying  the hero in the part of Stefan sung by the artist.

For the part of Stefan  in Stanisław Moniuszko’s  opera “The Haunted Manor” [Straszny Dwór].

Best female musical vocalist– Anna Lasota

Nominated by: Musical Theatre [Teatr Muzyczny] in Poznan

For creating a phenomenal title role enjoying high appreciation of the critics and the audience– in the role of Evita Perón in the „Evita” performance.

Best male musical vocalist – Krzysztof Dzwoniarski

Nominated by: Jan Kiepura Mazovian Musical Theatre in Warsaw

For a unique and extremely suggestive part of Tyron in the „FAME” musical.

 

Best debut (of a female singer) – Martyna Cymerman

Nominated by: Stanislaw Moniuszko Grand Theatre [Teatr Wielki im. Stanisława Moniuszki] in Poznan

For charming with a beautiful soprano of a clear diameter and coloratura, 
for unusual musicality and acting talent.

For the part of Nedda in the performance of “Pagliacci”  [Pajace] by R. Leoncavallo.

Best debut (of a male singer) – Emil Ławecki

Nominated by: Jan Kiepura Mazovian Musical Theatre in Warsaw

For an unusual creation, which swept the theatre and TV audience off their feet, giving the singer a victory in the 2nd issue of the Tenors’ Battle with Roses [Bitwa Tenorów na Róże].

For  a victorious appearance in the 2nd issue of the Tenors’ Battle with Roses.

Best director – Maciej Prus

Nominated by: Opera Nova in Bydgoszcz

For creating a non-standard, modern performance of Hector Berlioz’ dramatic legend „Condemnation of Faust” [Potępienie Fausta].

Best conductor – Jakub Chrenowicz

Nominated by: The Grand Theatre – National Opera [Teatr Wielki – Opera Narodowa] in Warsaw

For conducting and creating the artistic conception of the musical ballet performance  „Casanova in Warsaw” [Casanova w Warszawie].

Best female dancer – Mai Kageyama 

Nominated by: The Grand Theatre – National Opera in Warsaw

For a spectacular creation of the title role of Kate in the Polish premiere of the famous ballet “Taming of the shrew” [Poskromienie złośnicy]  by John Cranko.

Best male dancer – Maksim Woitiul

Nominated by: The Grand Theatre – National Opera in Warsaw

For an outstanding artistic creation – the main part of Petruccio  in the Polish premiere of the famous ballet “Taming of the shrew” by John Cranko.

Best choreograf – Jacek Tyski

Nominated by: Opera at the Castle [Opera na Zamku] in Szczecin

For an interestingly composed, modern ballet with elements of classical dance, pantomime and acrobatics to the performance of „Alice in Wonderland” [Alicja w Krainie Czarów].

Best scenograf – Hanna Wójcikowska- Szymczak

Nominated by: State Baltic Opera in Gdansk

For the stage sets for  the  performances of „The Tempest” [Burza] and „Fedra”, as well as  for the „Olimpia” opera from Gdansk. For showing the feelings, passions and emotions accompanying the heroes. 

Best musical poster – Wiesław Rosocha

Nominated by: Opera Nova in Bydgoszcz

For creating an artistic poster which moves the imagination for the performance of “Condemnation of Faust” by H. Berlioz.

 

Best stage costume –Warsaw School of Arts

Nominated by: Jan Kiepura Mazovian Musical Theatre in Warsaw

For preparing spectacular theatrical costumes for an unusual show during SemperOpernball 2016 in Dresden.

Internauts awarded:

 Special prize for the whole artistic work to – Professor Ryszard  Karczykowski

For building high culture and musical art in Poland and abroad.

His outstanding talent and great passion merit a distinction also in Poland. Thanks to such personalities as Professsor Karczykowski Polish culture and art can develop in a beautiful way.

Warsaw School of Arts  became the  laureate of the Pro Mazovia Prize – the highest distinction awarded by the Local Government of the Mazovian Voivodship
