Fame – The Musical – PREMIERE 8.10.2015 –Palladium Theatre – 7 p.m.
The incredible combination of energy, passion and talent with the greatest hits and spirited dances! The Polish version of legendary Fame-The Musical had its premiere in Warsaw. In the show performed the top young vocalists-graduates from the Academy of Music in Gdańsk. The premiere was organized by MTeatr, of which Director is Alicja Węgorzewska, that has its 10th Anniversary of Foundation this season. The spectacle was produced by prof. Andrzej Nanowski, PhD, who holds a function of a Dean of the Faculty of Voice and Drama at the Academy of Music in Gdańsk, while for direction was responsible Miłosz Gałaj, a graduate from the same Academy. Joanna Semeńczuk prepared the amazing and electric choreography, Adam Pietrzak was in charge of music management and Agnieszka Szydłowska was responsible for the ensembles. The make-ups were made by Katarzyna Jamóz-Jaszczuk, Martyna Naumowicz.
“FAME” tells the story of several students and teachers through their 4 year course since 1980 till 1984. We see them coming to terms with life and relationships. They are troubled, ambitious and gifted young people, yet not mature. They must learn how to resist the temptations and how to discipline themselves in order to become a professional actor, dancer or musician. We see their moments of happiness, love and most of all, we see them perceiving the need to strive for excellence, in both, private and professional life, in order to become the mature artists and grown-ups.
Many songs from this musical became greatest hits that are well-known all over the world. During the show you can listen to various genres of music: pop, rap, hip-hop, rock and roll, jazz and soul.

The musical provides us an amazing music, greatest hits and a story that deeply moves the audience – said Alicja Węgorzewska at the premiere opening, Director of MTeatr. – In 1980, there was made a film about famous Fame School whose graduates are Liza Minnelli, Al Pacino or Meryl Streep. It was nominated for the Oscar award and finally a successful film was followed by a TV series and in 1991 by musical, that is famous all over the world. The price that we – artists pay for the success is still a number one topic…
The musical is set in New York, nearby Times Square. It tells the story of group of students and teachers, whose fates were tied up with the legendary school. It presents the hopes and dilemmas of young artists, who dream about a success and a splendid future. At his time of their lives, they learn that the path for the success is not as easy they thought it is. It is a bumpy road that requires from them many sacrifices, hard trainings and resilience.

The mise en scène that was arranged by the Academy of Music in Gdańsk is a pure live music energy! With the simple scenography in the background and the lights play that determines the action, the real vocal-dancing show takes place at the stage. The spectacle that mixes many genres of music: pop, rap, hip-hop, rock and roll, jazz, soul and that is filled with greatest hits, draws attention from the very beginning.

The audience outnumbered the number of seats in the Palladium Theatre and welcomed every song and group scene with excitement and ovations. The gospel prayer performed by Marta Burdynowicz (as Mabel Washington) was absolutely breath-taking and deeply moved the audience. Agata Walczak as Miss Esther Sherman thrilled the audience with the song “To moje dzieci”. The audience also appreciated Paulina Wojtowicz – Serena Katz, Karol Drozd – Nick Piazza, Dawid Pelowski – Jose „Joe” Vegas and Anastazja Simińska – Carmen Diaz, Krzysztof Bobrzecki – Mr Myers, Justyna Cichomska – Iris Kelly, Krzysztof Dzwoniarski – Tyrone Jackson
– I’m really impressed with the performance – confessed Urszula Dudziak after premiere – It’s been a long time since I saw such good show–Broadway level!
The Warsaw “FAME” premiere ended with the standing ovations.
Next spectacles will take place on 26 November , 14 and 16 December in the Palladium Theatre.
